Dancing Ferns

Dancing Ferns in Volcano, Hawaii is a fantastic place to stay and visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park just a few minutes drive from our house. Our main house has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, full kitchen, large dining area, large living area with SMART TV, Free WiFi, and a large covered lanai (patio).

Please note that there is another rental on this large property - Dancing Bamboo Cottage. The units are fairly close in proximity but have no shared space other than the parking area, so don't be alarmed if you see a vehicle when you arrive. The outdoor spaces are on opposite sides of each other and there is space between, so your privacy is assured. And if you need more room there is a discount for renting both together. To rent both together (if available, for a party of 8 total guests, book Dancing Ferns Estate).

The luxurious living room is perfect for relaxing after a long day of sightseeing with an L-shaped leather sofa, TV, games and books. The kitchen has everything you could need to prepare those scrumptious island meals. The stunning outdoor lanai is one of the highlights of the home, featuring a formal dining area and lounge chairs for relaxing in the shade while enjoying the peace and quiet this area offers.

Our main bedroom features a King sized bed, walk-in closet, and full ensuite bathroom with walk-in tiled shower. There are 2 more exquisite guest bedrooms; one bedroom has 2 twin beds, and the other has a queen. These two bedrooms are on the opposite side of the living area from the main bedroom for privacy and the use of the second full bathroom. The second bathroom has a full sized washer and dryer for your use.

We provide beautiful bedding, extra blankets and there are heaters in each room. It can get quite chilly at 3500' elevation!

What to Pack:
The Island of Hawaii, aka the Big Island, boasts over 4,000 square miles and 10 different climate zones, within which are many micro climate zones! You may think that packing your favorite swimsuit and slippers (flip flops) is enough, but not true if you plan on doing any hiking or sightseeing around the island. The Volcano area can get quite chilly with temperatures dropping down to the low 40s at night, sometimes lower, so do bring your favorite warm pajamas and at least a light jacket. It actually snows often on Mauna Kea, but they close those roads whenever there are blizzard conditions present.

The detached Dancing Bamboo Cottage is stunning! The décor is Hawaiian plantation, with a kitchenette, cozy sitting area, large King bed and a luxurious walk in marble shower, Dish TV, DVD player with a vast selection of movies, wireless internet, coffee pot, microwave, toaster oven and mini-fridge.

  Our annual girls vacation retreat landed us somewhere out of the ordinary, and it was exactly what we needed! Dancing Fern was immaculately clean and well-stocked. The electric fireplace and the towel warmer was a bonus as it was a bit chilly, as well as the fresh lemons and sweet gardenias in the backyard! Simple pleasures! Only downside was the spotty Wi-Fi, which is understandable being that the house is situated in a fern forest. Great way to unplug from the daily grind. The large dining room table was the center of our weekend where we enjoyed our brunches, charcuterie, and hours of catching up. Thank you so much for the wonderful accommodations!

  This house may not be what people think of for a Hawaiian vacation but for 4 travelers from Phoenix, AZ the cool mountain air was a delight. The remote location was such a contrast to the intense noise of Honolulu we felt we had found our own little corner of Paradise.
  The house is simply stunning. The furnishings were of excellent quality & comfortable. There was lots of room to spread out & find your own quiet space. The patio was my personal favorite. I looked forward to our daily visits from the pheasant couple. Now if we only figure out how to keep that darn rooster from crowing all day long!
  The kitchen was probably the best equipped I have ever encountered. We found everything we needed to cook breakfast & dinner daily. The knives were even sharp & the cookware unstick!
  During our stay we needed a few maintenance issues dealt with but everything was promptly addressed by the rental team. (Excellent communication, by the way!)
  Know if you stay here you'll do a lot of driving. We knew that going in & we enjoyed our drives. There's lots of beautiful & interesting scenery on the Big Island & we did our best to see it all.
  I highly recommend The Dancing Ferns to anyone who craves a little corner of Paradise! You won't regret it.

  House was nice. Needed more towels,better heating system and folding lawn chairs would be nice for taking to beach. We lost power twice and fire alarms went off . It would have not been such a problem if we had access to breaker box in garage. If these issues we rectified I would highly recommend house.

That was the first and only time that has ever happened at this home. We handled it quickly, and as I'm sure you recall we did give you the location of the secret garage key (it's owner storage and usually not accessible to guests) as well as the breaker box location. Most houses in Hawaii are built without ducts due to our very mild climate, so space heaters and fireplaces are the only heating systems available - and of course we provide loads of extra blankets, just in case! Housekeeping leaves 1.5 towel sets for every guest, which is almost always sufficient. For your party of 6 we left 9 towel sets. Of course, there's the washer and dryer if guests wish to launder towels during their stay if they wish to. We wish you the best in your future travels!   Relaxing stay in a superbly maintained custom home, surrounded by the rain forest and within a few miles of the National Park. Hilo is only 30 minutes away and is also a historic and beautiful place to visit.
  
  Restaurants close by in the town of Volcano, home to many excellent artist studios or home cook in fully equipped kitchen in high ceiling great room with views all around. Home shows as basically brand new with near-luxury appointments, copious art and an incredible jungle setting visible from every window.
  
  New comfortable beds in a super quiet setting that almost ensures a good nights sleep.

  This is a great place to stay if you are looking for a place just down the road from Volcanoes National Park that is away from the crowds and traffic and is in the heart of a rainforest! We enjoyed hearing the frogs at night, the distant rooster in the mornings, and the casual wild pig visit outside the fence. We were so close to Volcanoes National Park that we were able to hike it two days and come back to rest during the day. Highly recommended!

  My husband and I had a lovely visit to Dancing Ferns Estate! We would highly recommend this beautiful home to travelers to the volcano. Home was well equipped and it had a large outdoor lanai where we could enjoy a morning cup of coffee. Wild pigs had torn up the front yard, but the back yard was fenced and nicely kept. I would plan on arriving during daylight hours since the directions were a bit confusing. The home is on an extension of Lehuapele and their is a road sign at the end of the paved single lane road. (Directions indicated Kaleponi Drive but there is no sign to indicate this). Take a left when you come to the intersection of Ali'i Kane and Lehuapele and proceed about 1/4 mile to the gate. There is no light, so it would be difficult to open the date if you come after sunset. We enjoyed the Volcano Village- our lunch at Ohelo Cafe was great! We enjoyed the cool weather and rain...very refreshing from our home in Kona. Overall great experience.

  Because we were within minutes of the National Park, we got to explore more of the volcano area. With bedrooms/bathroom combos on each side of the house there was private space for both couples. Information about the appliances and expectations was well written and easy to follow. Communication with the property manager was prompt and informational. Parking space was plentiful. The area is surrounded by the forest so plants and trees everywhere. A great house for our visit to Hawaii.

  What a beautiful home to get to spend our vacation. All one level, easy for a 91 year old to maneuver, in and out, and onto the lanai. Fabulous furniture and wall hangings lent to the beauty. The kitchen was well furnished, except they had only 4 coffee mugs which we had to share. Fortunately there were only 5 of us, but the house is set up to rent to more so one would expect there could be more of such a basic thing as coffee mugs. The grounds were gorgeous, we loved the fresh lemons growing and all the flowers and foliage. We enjoyed eating dinner on the lanai, and breakfasts inside while the mornings were a bit cooler. We were near enough to the volcano (7 miles) to go out before 4:00am to hear and see the lava flowing, and yet isolated enough to enjoy our privacy. We enjoyed the birds in the area, and got to see a wild pig cross in front of us on the road toward the house. The master bedroom had a very spacious closet, and the other bedrooms had spacious closets, but they were unusable due to poor or no lighting.

We have a small damage waiver fee at every rental to ensure we can replace anything that gets damaged or broken during a stay. Unfortunately guests are not always forthcoming with that information. Our hard working housekeepers are not able to inventory every item in-between visits (there are only so many hours in a day!!) so we DO request that guests let us know if something needs fixing or replacing. The damage protection fee means there's no additional charge to guests so PLEASE, all future guests, let us know if we need to fix or replace any items that have been damaged during your stay.   Dancing Ferns is a beautiful house in the middle of the rainforest. It is secluded and peaceful. I loved getting up in the early morning to the sounds of birds and watching them come out of the forest onto the lawn.   The stay was great. We had come to see our son who lived less than a mile away from where we stayed. So, to find this secluded home, quiet and off into the hidden Fern Forest was exactly what we we're looking for. If there was anything that we found that was uncomfortable was in the evening when it would get a bit chilly. But they did furnish small electric heaters for each room, and we did use them to warm up our bedroom before bedtime. The rest of the house was cool until morning time and would warm back up quickly. But other than that, we loved this place and would definitely stay here again when we come to visit our son in the near future.   This house is big and open with lots of space. The beds are comfy and everything was clean, up-to-date and well-maintained. The property is secluded and private, feels like there is no one else around you. It is a short drive to get to the restaurants and farmers market in Volcano Village, and to the national park to see the volcano.
