Hale Kai Suites - Bamboo Room

Hale Kai Hawaii Suites offers four oceanfront rooms (booked individually) and a spectacular, panoramic view of the blue Pacific Ocean and Hilo Bay. We overlook the popular Honolii surfing beach in a peaceful location just 2 miles north of historic Hilo Town. Revel in the best views in Hilo while at our pool and oceanfront lanai!

The Bamboo Room offers a king bed, private bathroom with shower, WiFi, SMART TV, small fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, hot water pot, toaster, dishes and utensils, ceiling and portable fans, no air conditioning, and sliding door to lanai. Continental breakfast items are stocked daily and we invite all guests to swim in the pool or lounge on the oceanfront lanai.

A few NOTES: One parking spot is provided per room in this quiet residential neighborhood. All Guest Rooms are facing the ocean on the lower level of the property and there are over 30 steps down (pictured) to traverse to the rooms. Guests are responsible for carrying their luggage to their rooms. Bookings limited to 2 guests per room (age 13 years and over). Quiet hours are 9pm to 8am for the comfort of all of our guests, Mahalo!

While at Hale Kai (House on the Ocean) Hawaii, enjoy watching surfers, dolphins, and seasonal humpback whales during their annual migration to the Hawaiian Islands from the north Pacific.   We stayed 2 nights.
  Pros:
  Nice view, can watch sunrise in the room.
  Close enough to Hilo town.
  Clean and safe.
  They provide fruit everyday plus some eggs and cupcakes in the fridge.
  Every room gets an assigned parking spot.
  
  Cons:
  There are a lot of stairs to get to the room, not convenient if you have a lot of luggage to carry in and out.
  It's a bit weird that we had to walk past all the other guests' patio area. And then we needed to go through the common area/room to get to our room.
  It's the only room that doesn't have a sliding door to the outside. They put up dividers in the outdoor area so every room has its own "patio" with a table and chairs where you can eat breakfast and watch sunrise. However, we didn't have direct access to our patio area and had to carry our food and go through the common room and then go to the other side of the divider once we are outside. Just not as convenient.
  The granola bar they provided was stale.
  If you are sensitive to sound while sleeping, this may not be for you. You can hear the sound of waves(I find it soothing) and birds chirping all night.
  Parking is a bit tight and it's on a slope.

  We stayed at the Bamboo room. Nice private room with wonderful beach views. The rental is just few minutes from Hilo. We stayed 4 nights to explore the east side of the island. Great for stars gazing, we enjoyed the sunrise from our bed. We Enjoy our wonderful breakfast while watching the surfers at Honolii beach wich is about 0.8 miles from the hotel. Breakfast is simple but delicious 😋 we looked forward for what we would get next morning. Even though they provide coffee and a coffee maker We took a quick ride to hilo to get our coffee and trythe local coffee shops drve back to our room and enjoy our fresh fruit and muffins.
  The rental was tiny different from the pictures I wish they have kept the colorful walls instead of the plain white walls. Not a deal breaker but the color walls made so much cozier and tropical looking
  The room really needs a full size sure all your female guests will appreciate. Did not use the pool but we did enjoy the pool area and relaxed enjoying the views. If we or when we are back to the big island we definitely staying here again!

  The room was very nice and clean. And we had a wounderful view on the sea, including sunrise. We stayed for four nights.
  But this was a bit too long, 2 nights would have been enough.
  The breakfast became every day less: no more yoghurts, no more oat meals.
  The pool was not working in time. At night we did not want to sit outside, because of the mosquitos (but this was just our problem ;-))

  My sister and I spent four nights here during our 2-week vacation in Hawaii. Of the four places that we stayed, this proved to be our favorite. Being an end room, the Bamboo provides exceptional privacy along with the beautiful sunrise view. The singing of the coqui frogs only added to the unique experience. We enjoyed having a leisurely breakfast on the lanai, each day a different flavor of muffin and blend of fresh fruit.
  The property and beautiful landscaping are well maintained and clean. We appreciated the daily cleaning of dishes, trash removal, and delivery of the next morning's breakfast.
  The location was perfect for our activities along the northern coast, yet an easy drive into Hilo and points beyond. While parking is a bit tricky, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

  The Bamboo room was fantastically comfortable for us and very pretty. The king bed was super comfortable. The shower is very roomy with great water pressure. The absence of a/c was not an issue with the ocean breeze and ceiling fan. The continental breakfast was just right for us and the fresh fruit was great. We watched the whales from the terrace while we breakfasted every morning. The gardens are lovely. The location was very convenient for Hilo. Our only cons were that the pool is not heated and was a little cool and the door to the Common Room sticks a little.

  We had a great experience with this rental, the property is awesome, great views and flowers. We had a brief issue with the bathroom sink, but it was fixed immediately. The bed was comfortable the shower was refreshing. The fresh fruit and continental breakfast every morning was perfect. We love hardboiled eggs; however, these were impossible to peel. I recommend waiting for the water to boil before adding the eggs to make them easier to peel.

  The suite was clean, well stocked with a big walk-in shower. The suite and the outdoor seating space had an amazing view of the ocean with tons of humpbacks to watch. The best part of the bamboo suite was that it's at the end of the row of 4 units so it was the only one that people didn't have to walk by to access their unit. Breakfast consisted of fresh fruit, yogurt and muffins and there was plenty of coffee and tea supplied.
  
  The only downsides: parking was tight and awkward in our dodge charger rental car and the pool and hot tub did not seem to be running.

  We enjoyed our stay at Hale Kai. Good location outside of town but not too far. Quiet neighborhood. Beautiful view of the ocean. Filling breakfast with in room coffee and tea as well. Took advantage of the many activities listed on the welcome pages that are on the table. Comfortable bed but the Coqui frogs chirping at night might keep you up! Jacuzzi was too hot at 105 though.

Some guests love them (I've been asked to send people recordings to fall asleep to!) but light sleepers might find they need some getting used to. I think of them as white noise ;-) There is a temperature button on the hot tub so guests can set their desired heat level. If you come back and find it set too hot, you can turn down the heat and take the cover off, which should get you your ideal temperature setting in 15 minutes or so.   We were on Big Island for 5 days. The accommodation was fantastic. Direct view of the sea and the surfers. Super beautiful sunsets we could enjoy from our terrace.   This B&B is very clean. Staff is very friendly. All utensils are in your room for you to use with your breakfast. Location is 5 minutes away from Hilo and the airport is only 15 minutes away. We didn't have good weather it rained the 3 days here. Volcano National Park is only 1 hour away. Oh, the coquis frogs are loud so make sure you are a heavy sleeper!

  We enjoyed our stay in the Bamboo room. I loved making coffee and watching the whales each morning! Breakfast was a nice touch and the quality of fruit was very good! As others have said, the parking was a little tight but we were able to manage just fine. We will stay here again if we come back to the Big Island.

  Amazing ocean views, though the lanai furniture needs an upgrade. Very comfortable bedding and you fall asleep to the sound of ocean waves and coquis. The breakfast items are pretty simple: fruit, hard boiled eggs, yogurt. The staff are very responsive and professional!

  This was such a great spot. My positive experience began even before we got there as they were so responsive with my questions about the hot tub and their easy detailed check in instructions.   Unfortunately, it rained most of our short weekend in Hilo, but we made the best of it. Hale Kai was super clean, cute and convenient. We didn't get to enjoy the pool, but it looked lovely. The grounds and view were beautiful. The Coqui are loud at night, but it's a "friendly " noise.

  Hale Kai is in a great location with beautiful landscaping and views. The room was very comfortable with everything we needed. The breakfast was delicious each day, especially all the fresh fruits.   We had a wonderful stay in the Bamboo room. It is the most private of all the rooms in the building. The room was plenty large enough for 2 people and very clean as well. Considering the restrictions due to Covid, the breakfasts were just fine. There was fresh fruit and assorted breads every morning along with plenty of coffee. We also enjoyed watching the surfers every night at the nearby beach park, which is close enough to walk to. We will definitely check for availability here for our next stay in Hilo.

  The Bamboo Room was a tranquil spot with expansive views of the ocean. We enjoyed the sound of the waves and birds with the warm tropical breeze. We even saw a pod of dolphins from the lanai during breakfast one morning! The parking is tight, but we were able to manage it in our rented Jeep. We will definitely plan to stay in the Bamboo Room when we visit Hilo again!

  We stayed in Hilo for 3 nights and spent one day going north, one day exploring Hilo and Mauna Kea, and one day exploring Puna. This location was great, and we enjoyed the sunrise every morning. This place has four units that all face the sea with sliding doors to a patio. The patios are divided by bamboo screens and the walkway in front of the patios is shared and that’s how you access the rooms. The Bamboo Room was comfortable for a couple. It’s the only unit that doesn’t have a slider (access through a common room). Nice bathroom/great shower! The parking spaces are cramped and odd-shaped so we had to back in, but we managed. It was a great spot for what we wanted.
